THE CAN’T MISS LIST | SIGHTS, BITES, AND TRAVEL ADVICE
While, it feels like travel blogs can be a dime a dozen. We just love to travel. We have up to date insight, that we love sharing with others!
When we became a Flight Attendant, over 5 years ago, we realized how unique our passion for travel (and our archives) really were.
PASSION
Wait… not everyone does a deep dive for months into the areas culture and how to best respect and connect with it?
What about weeks of research creating a detailed itinerary?
Learning a bit of the language before travel?
Taking detailed notes on the most delicious restaurants at a decent price?
When part of your job is to have a passion for travel, and you are still more passionate about it than many others in the industry?
We knew, we had to share. So we did!
MEMORY AND MEMORIES
Why were we keeping all these notes in the first place? Honestly, because we have a horrible memory.
We wanted to be able to give our recommendations to friends, family, co-workers, strangers on the train, hostel-mates, whoever! So, they could have as enriching of an experience as we did.
But, after decades of travel, lost so much information to memory.
Not only that, TCML has become, a bit of a scrapbook for us. A nice little walk down memory lane.
And, while we’re not the most tech-savvy, it’s much prettier than our notes section!
BROADENING PERSPECTIVES
We’ve seen far too many, “entitled/ignorant Americans,” on our travels abroad. It’s embarrassing for them.
Too many people travel the world, without really a care for the culture or people, whose home they are traveling to see.
You get out of travel, what you put into it.
We hope to educate travelers. To convert, a couple people at least, into respectful travelers, who make the most out of their experience through fun and curiosity.
YOU CAN’T SAVE THEM ALL
Don’t believe Americans can be disrespectful abroad? For some reason, this reality can be a touchy subject, for some people.
Here are a few examples we have personally seen in the last two years.
Eg. If the excursion you’re on your way to says cash only and tip is not included. Don’t loudly proclaim on the train that this is the 21st century and they’ll take your card or nothing. And if they argue with you, no tip…the audacity.
Eg. Or just yell at people louder in English when they don’t understand you? Please, no!
Eg. Or going to see the Elephants or animals in certain countries and place? Because, the “sancuatries”…aren’t.
If you don’t know, now you know!
But, as with most things. We prefer to attribute this to ignorance over malice.
Yet, another reason why we started this page. To show others how to travel respectfully, by showing them how we travel.
Didn’t know about the horrible conditions of the Elephants and other animals? This is a huge issue, world-wide.
You’ve got to start, somewhere. For your first dive into educating yourself on the subject. Try doing some research online, or watching Cher and the Lonliest Elephant. (Yes, THE Cher).
CONVENIENCE?!
Now, maybe we are the ones offending people by saying blogging is a convenience..
But, hear us out.
Throughout the years, we found ourselves to be a bit… obsessive with the amount of information we kept in our Notes about our travels.
As a flight attendant? We were sharing these notes ALL THE TIME. Sometimes, multiple times a flight, on multiple flights a day. And you know the documents rarely transferred correctly!
So, with all of that information sitting in our Notes section? Pooling the information into a blog and sharing that instead, does feel so much easier!
Let’s be clear, we are not trying to say blogging is easy. It can certainly be far from it.
While, we do find TCML to be more like a diary than an archive at times. We’ve grown to like this more frequent aspect of blogging.
MONEY
It wasn’t until someone offered us $200 for a page of our Croatian restaurant recommendations, that we realized we could actually be making money with our passion project.
While, we aren’t expecting to go viral and make millions. We just hope to start with our blog making enough to pay for itself (not our travels).
But, the dream?
Making a passive income from our passion project!
We hope you enjoyed our little ditty of the day!
