EASY!
Generally, I am a self-defined “stretcher.” Working out is not something I would think of as “fun.” However, when I read this prompt, the answer flashed quickly into my mind!
TRAVEL
If you’re like us, when you visit a new place, you want to see all you can. The last thing you want to do, is make a bucket list. Only to travel thousands of miles to visit, return home… and find out you missed something truly incredible. It’s our nightmare, and it happens to travelers all the time!
Now, when we travel, we do our research, and plan well. While, there’s always something new to discover rendering “seeing it all” impossible. We can at the very least, plan our days to see the most we can while creating a genuine experience. But, we think that’s great!
Basically, we don’t want to miss the hidden gems. So, we’re constantly preparing for our next globe-trot, or are on the move!
THE WORKOUT
The workout we get, bustling around a new city, getting in well over 10 miles a day? Those are my best workouts of the year! …And don’t get us started on the life of a, “Carry-On-Queen!”
Lugging your bags up giant-sized ancient steps just to reach your accommodations? That’s enough workout to last me the whole trip! Why put yourself through that? Well, we researched ahead of time, a local spot with incredible views we could wake up to.
So what makes it so fun? The experience. The travel itself, seeing a new location and being a part of it.
THE BALANCE
If that sounds more like a boot camp, than a vacation to you, don’t worry. We don’t travel like that the whole trip… anymore!
After years of burning ourselves out on our vacations. Trying to check off every little thing on our bucket lists. Only to return home feeling like we needed a mini vacation, after our vacation? Yeah, that wasn’t working for us.
So, we did some planning, tested it out, and cracked the code to getting the best of both worlds on vacation! How to see it all, and avoid the dreaded travel-burnout.
We honed in on a baseline of “everything in moderation,” and “splurge, thoughtfully.” Using, day trips and Home Base Travel to wear ourselves out less, moving from place to place. After all, travel is a marathon, not a sprint!
WE SPRINT MARATHONS
Okay, okay, no. We most certainly do not. But, how we see so much in the first few days of a trip? It certainly feels that way!
Without further ado, here is our travel “workout”, and easy formula for a well-balanced trip. Perfect for avoiding the dreaded “travel burnout.”
Planning Your Trip Like A Workout
START WITH CITY | END WITH BEACH
First, we “stretch”, as we plan and prep for all of our trip necessities.
Next, for our (literal) workout, we bustle about seeing cities, museums, and hikes.
Then, it’s time for a “cool down”, ending our trip wandering around smaller cities or islands and posting up on the beach.
When, finally, the trip has come to a close, we get back to reality feeling healthy and refreshed.
