What book could you read over and over again?

RICK STEVE’S | ITALY TRAVEL GUIDE

THE BOOK

While, I love far too many books to count. The book I could read, time and time again, is Rick Steve’s Italy Travel Guide.

It’s the book that started my passion for travel. It’s why I am a flight attendant, and why I have a travel blog. Though, I suppose it’s not so much the book itself. But, what the writing in the book, sparks in me.

In general, when I read (whether it be fantasy or non-fiction), I immerse myself in the world written around me. Being able to do this with a travel guide? It doesn’t immerse me in a land of another’s creation. It brings me back to the places and memories that have personally brought me joy. And sparks new ideas.

In a way, the descriptions in the book, bring me back to the place myself. They open up, and remind my mind of the core travel memories I have created, so far. And my world slips back years ago, and memories far, far away.

But, that wasn’t always the case.

THE BEGINNING

After (begrudgingly) reading (skimming) the book, for the first time as a 13 year old. My family went on our first international trip, to Italy. Where I was finally bitten by the travel bug.

On my first trip to Italy, I felt it in my soul. I knew, my life-long passion for travel, had officially been sparked.

With that spark, I began re-reading (actually reading) Rick Steve’s Italy Travel Guide on our trip. Which, is what I was doing. When, the man himself, walked down the stairs in our Florence hotel lobby.

Meeting the author of the best travel book of the country out there, at the time? In our hotel?! It was fate! How could I not say a passing hello?

Getting to travel the world and write about your experiences… That’s a job? It was sinking in, and I couldn’t believe it. It’s easy to say, I had a new idol, and a new dream.

While, I knew my style would be vastly different. With, my first trip to Europe, and Rick Steve’s Italy Travel Guide. My world had opened, and my life was forever altered, by my brief meeting, with the author who inspired it all.
