THINGS TO KNOW BEFORE YOU GO

Greece is a country in the Mediterranean, comprised of a peninsula and thousands of islands.

Known as the Cradle of Civilization for the birth of democracy. The history here is as bottomless as its seas… and its wine!


FRIENDLY REMINDER | PASSPORT EXPIRATION

If you want to travel to Greece, your passport cannot expire within 3 months of your expected date to return home.

Let us repeat: They will not let you fly out of the USA, to fly to Greece (and many other countries) if your passport expires within 3 months. This is true for many countries.

To be safe, we always advise renewing your passport at least 6 months before its expiration.

ALWAYS check your destination country’s travel requirements.


SCHENGEN ZONE

The Schengen Zone is a group of (mostly) European countries that have agreed to drop border patrols between each other. Meaning, you can travel freely between them, without needing to show your passport.

A US citizen can travel within the Schengen Zone for three months out of six, without needing a visa (with certain specifications).

If, you are traveling in Europe for under 3 months. There is no need to worry about any travel documentation, but your passport.


CURRENCY | EUROS

Greece converted from the Drachma to the Euro in 2001.


LANGUAGE | GREEK

While, the national language is Greek. Most people speak English, as well.

If you are worried about communicating, there’s no harm in downloading the Google Translate app on your phone.


EMERGENCY PHONE NUMBER | 112

That’s it. If you need emergency help in Greece, just type 112 into your phone and call. No need for + or country code. This is the emergency number for most countries in Europe.

If you already know you’re traveling there, our advice is to add 112 into your phone, now. This way, it’s easy to find in case of an emergency. We advising saving it as, “Emergency Phone Number Europe,” or “911 Greece,” in your contacts.
