CROATIA

Usually, we don’t like to play favorites when it comes to world travel.

But, with its welcoming people, sparkling seas, and seriously salivating food. Croatia easily solidified itself within the top of our favorite places list.

Don’t miss it!

THINGS TO KNOW BEFORE YOU GO

LANGUAGE | CROATIAN

With its Slavic roots, Croatian may seem like a difficult language to get a handle of, as an English speaker. But, give it a go! We found that, while almost every Croatian we came across spoke English. They got a kick out of us giving their language a go, and loved the effort!

CURRENCY | EUROS

After Croatia joined the European Union in 2023, its currency changed from the Kuna to the Euro.

CAPITAL | ZAGREB

Zagreb is located toward the north of Croatia. While it’s ever-popular counterpart, Dubrovnik sits toward the south.

TIP

A slip of land owned by Montenegro separates the North of Croatia from the South. Unless taking a ferry, keep your passport on you. You will need it for customs when breifly crossing through the country OR make a day of it and head to Mostar!

THE BEST TIME TO VISIT

END OF MAY – BEGINNING AND MID SEPTEMBER

We prefer the beginning of September, before the fall storms pick up. Though, we have traveled there in October. We did find the weather to be quite a bit cooler and lucked out with most of the storms thundering through the night. Then clearing up to blue skies by early afternoon.

SAFETY

I have never felt more safe, than I have in Croatia. I forgot my phone at a bar and didn’t realize until we got back to our apartment. It was on the packed bar top for over an hour. When we went back for it? It still sitting there, on the packed bar, untouched.

That being said, as a prepared person, it’s best to still be on your guard. Especially, if traveling solo, and out alone at night.

EMERGENCY PHONE NUMBER | 112

In case of emergency, dial 112 on your phone and call emergency services. Think of this as the European version of 911.

THE SCHENGEN ZONE

If you are traveling for under 3 months, there is no reason to think about getting a visa for The Schengen Zone (a group of European countries without border control between them).

If you are planning a longer trip traveling within The Schengen Zone, you will need a visa for said time.

PASSPORT

Make sure that your passport does not expire within 3 months of your return date from your trip. If your passport expires within 3 months of your return, it will not be valid to use. You will need to renew your passport before your trip. This takes time, check your passport expiration date early.

YACHT WEEK | CROATIA

Yacht week in Croatia is world-renowned for its fun, party atmosphere. We have friends who have gone and had a BLAST! We can’t wait for the opportunity to go, ourselves!
