SURROUNDING ISLANDS
MURANO
Glass
World-renowned glass blowing island a short ferry ride away from Venice. Don’t bother catching the first ferry in the morning, this artist’s town won’t wake up for another 30 mins to and hour.
We highly recommend checking out a glass blowing demonstration. And getting a souvenir or two!
BURANO
Lace and Color
Burano is known for its picturesque charm; being the home of delicate lace-work and colorful, contrasting buildings.
MAZZORBO
Peace
If you’re neurodivergent, traveling to big, noisy, cities can trigger overstimulation. Sometimes, without even realizing it. After all the hustle and bustle that comes with travel, taking a rest Parco Mazzorbo, is a great way for anyone to push reset. Honestly, we didn’t even realize we needed it until the lack of noise made us breathe a sigh of relief.
Food
MUST EAT HERE: Trattoria alla Maddelena
LIDO
Lido is the Venetian Island where many celebrities tay during one of Venice’s many International Events throughout the year. If you’re looking for the “cleaner” version of Venice, we recommend taking the ferry over to wander, and have lunch or enjoy one of its bougie beach clubs.
ABANO TERME
Ancient Roman Mud Baths and Thermal Hot Springs
Just over an hour from Venice by trai, Abano Terme is home of Ancient Roman healing volcanic mud and waters. Known for healing, detox, and relaxation and offering spa options or longer stays for medical healing.
After spending the first few days of a vacation to Europe prancing across Paris, I knew we would need some downtime to reset, and fully get to enjoy our vacation. So, I surprised my husband with day trip to Abano Terme. We rented a room for a day, took a dip in the hot springs, got wrapped in healing mud, got massages, fed, relaxed around the hotel, and returned to Venice.
We could literally feel the mud working!
It tingled in specific spots on our bodies. eg. my injured knee (and my husbands liver…lol. (Okay, mine a little too.))
FERRY TO CROATIA
A ferry from Venice to the country of Croatia, takes only 2.5 hours! If Croatia is on your bucket list, don’t miss this chance to see its stunning shores!
UPDATE
Check the ferry schedules. The current shortest ride to Croatia is now 3.5 hours. So, it might make a better overnight, than day trip! Hopefully, the ferries will be running to closer locations again, soon. But, in the meantime, you could always do a catamaran or boat cruise. Which would only take about 2 hours.
Don’t forget about Yacht Week!
